FINALS
The Finals of the Dew Cup were played out this evening, and featured two blowouts in the lower division, and a barn burner for the Championship in Division 1.
Fighting Penguins demolished SD Soccer for the Div 3 crown, with a brilliant 5-0 performance, dominating in every facet of the game. The recently demoted side from Div 2, showed they belong back up where they came from.
Tenpool FC proved everyone right, as they were chosen as early Division favorites and met little resistance along their path to victory. 5 wins from 5, and a +23 goal Differential, Tenpool should be an early favorite for Series 3.
The Main event of the evening featured Ocala and Goombie battling it out for supremacy and the right to call themselves Dew Cup Champions. The two met earlier in the group stage and played out a thrilling 3-3 draw where the two teams traded goals all game and that saw Ocala equalize with 3 minutes to play. Goombie scored first on a penalty but Ocala got two right back thanks to Zacco Longobardi setting up and getting one for himself, the assist finding prolific striker Kurmai who always scores big goals. Goombie found an equalizer 8 minutes before halftime thanks to a deflection and went into the break very relieved to be on even footing. Ocala couldnt capitalize on 3 second half chances to score, one finding woodwork, and Goombie's attack was subdued, leading us to play for it all in Overtime. In the extra session, Kurmai looked to get the winner, with a spectacular lob of the keeeper but only found the crossbar, leaving Ocala's Red Army supporters frustrated again. And their hearts were soon broken, when Goombie was awarded their second spot kick of the game, and Hornberg stepped up with everything on the line, and slotted it home for the Championship.
It was a spectacular end to a great tourney, seeing a Club who didnt make it out of their group in Series 1, come back and take home the title in Series 2.
