CHAMPIONS Crowned

The Dew Cup concluded this evening, and Death Valley Bushwackers, our pre tournament favorite have been crowned Champions of the Mountain Dew Cup. In an epic showdown, DVB pitted their stellar defense and strong midfield against the counterattacking juggernaut of the Beasts. After trading goals early, The Bushwackers threatened to pull away with back to back goals and a 3-1 lead, but Beasts pulled a goal back on a corner to make 3-2 and put the pressure on.  DVB responded again, and put the game away for good, 4-2 with a goal from division leading scorer:Michalis Papastavrou.  DVB, deserving champions, finished the tournament unbeaten and will no doubt be favorites going into the next volume.

Division 2 saw a defensive battle for the championship between Requin and Jersey.  The teams matched each others midfields, trading slight possession victories in each half, and both put out solid defenses, insuring a hard fought low scoring game. Thomas Jones, the division's leading scorer, buried a free kick for the game's only goal, which also saw The Highlanders squander chance after chance to score, including a missed penalty. Jersey were the pre tourney favorites, but Lezards proved to be the dominant force in division 2, with 5 wins from 5 and zero goals allowed.

In Division 3, Devil Dolphins defied the odds again, to bring home the division crown and win promotion, with a dominant 4-1 win over Dolphe Athletic. The Dolphins strong midfield game, again took pressure off their defense and provided too many opportunities for Dolphe's defense to hold out. DD finishes, with just two goals allowed int he tournament and should be a pesky team on their promotion to division 2.
